The last statement of Oscar Wilde of your article is “If people were meant to be nude, they would have been born this way.” I didn't get the exact meaning of it. Is this statement in support of naturism or whether it is not in favor of the naturism? Will you please explain?
There was a common phrase some time ago that if God had meant for us to fly, we would have been born with wings. This was a way of saying that some things were against the natural order and was used to justify opposing new ideas or developments. Oscar Wild was known to write witty and humorous comments and took this idea and twisted it. The statement that if people were meant to be nude they would have been born that way, is supportive of naturism.
It's very kind & nice of you. You just spent your time to explain the twist of the statement. Now I really understood it. Sincere thanks for your wonderful & detail explanatory reply.
very rightly said. all these days should be celebrated mainly with focus on non naturists. even if very few NN change their harsh opinion about naturism the objective of these days will be fulfilled. However saying this, it depends solely as to whether NN willingly practice all these days at least once in a year.
Everyday of the year should be Indoor Naked Gardening Day. But in some parts of the world. For example The South Island of New Zealand I would not be doing it in Autumn and Winter.
Totally agree with this post. It's a little tragic and pointless that advertising for several annual events such as "Day without togs", "Skinny-dip down a Moonbeam", etc are confined to naturist publications - a case of preaching to the converted. These events need to be embraced more as a means to encourage the joys and benefits, as well as simply the public acceptability, of clothes-optional living among general society. In fact the World Naked Bike Ride was never a "naturist" event.
After a few initial humorous remarks when advertising clothing-optional events on our local community Facebook page, it has been most encouraging to find now that some local folks have become keen to learn more. We need to stop being so inward focussed!
Part of me rejects any “day” as a cynical marketing ploy designed to sell us things - while the idea started with good intentions to highlight some good cause or other it has been hijacked, like Christmas, Easter, Mother’s, Father’s, valentine’s etc, as a sales opportunity.
But occasionally some obvious good cause shines through, or something with little or no selling opportunity (“buy your World Naked Gardening T-shirt” doesn’t fly) and it doesn’t seem so ridiculous.
Of course whether it’s a sales ploy or not you’re right, it’s for those who aren’t already involved to learn more about the subject, not for the aficionados for whom every day is ??? Day. As for naked gardening, you have my sympathies that it’s a northern hemisphere idea!!
Good post I have long thought that one of the best ways to engage non naturists is to connect the naturist way of life to other ordinary everyday things they are familiar with interested and enjoy.Agree with your perspective in this.
