It's always difficult to change directions late in life (after 50). I ended up taking an early retirement in my late 50s and have lived mostly on investments since. Live a few miles out of town and now with Starlink I have high speed Internet again. It's also a good place to be outside naked all summer.
I do hope you find some productive work to do to replace the job you currently have.
Whatever choice you make Badger I’m sure it will be the right one for you. As you allude to, the expectation of starting down a new path close to retirement is fairly daunting. Wishing you well however it pans out.
For what it’s worth, I retrained at 50 and ran my own business from it for the next 13 years till retirement. A lot depends on one’s circumstances but it can be done.
Looking back I stayed in a job far to long. In retirement now but I could have had a lot of different experiences through work. I say move on! Was at KNP recently and thought if we were 20 years younger running a place like that would be very rewarding, such potential. I think you could lease or buy a campground and turn it into clothing optional. Now that would be an adventure and sorely lacking. Good luck either way.
I’ve been in a somewhat similar position, having to find a new position late in my career. While it was happening there was a lot of anxiety, but things turned out well. For the next few weeks you’ll worry about what the future will bring more than you might normally, which is futile. We humans have a remarkable ability to adapt. You will manage. I hope things turn out the way you want.

Now there is an idea.

Thank you.
A nice little piece. Sounds pretty much like no-lose situation to me. Best of luck keeping your kit off.
Thank you
